"The Mantle"
Mariposa County, California, April 2005
This was made nearly 2 years ago during a long day hike along the Merced River Canyon between the town of Mariposa and Yosemite. I remember being really excited when I came across this scene but somehow wasn't too happy when I later examined the chrome on the lightbox. The photograph, however, has been slowly growing on me and I am now getting the desire to print it. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.
This is really cool. You have a definite way with these intimate rockscapes. The color and textures are right on the money, but for printing, I wonder if the thin branches might be a bit distracting. It is hard to tell at this size.
I have always liked these rock gardens and you timed this one perfectly as far as the light is concerned. Good job!

Serene. I like it. That little island of green is evocative, though it probably evokes different things to different people.

Got nothing nood nor bad to say about the photo, but it doesn't quite work for me as is.

I've looked at this several times Anil and something feels a bit off. Your composition is good, but it isn't "speaking" to me. Maybe the lighting doesn't seem to fit the subject? Meaning it feels too evenly lit to me. perhaps it would help to define an area of emphasis with lighter values and burn in other less important elements which make up the scene? Just some thoughts.....
