I'm looking at purchasing the entire creative suite as opposed to just photoshop. I am pricipally interested in adding Acrobat and In Design. I probably won't use illustrator or the flash tools extensively. Cost is not a major concern to prevent me from getting Creative Suite, but I'm wondering about the upgrade path. Does Creative Suite allow you to upgrade just Photoshop? If not do you have to wait for all of the CS components to go to CS3 before you can upgrade?
Mel, I think a quick call to Adobe's sales line will probably be your best bet for this information.

I appreciate that Guy. I was wondering what practical experiences people have had here. I have been reading on their website to see what information is provided there and will follow up with a call when I have a chance.

Hi Mel,
Adobe does have the final say; however, that said, from my own experience, I know that when you have individual items you can not upgrade to the Suite and visa-versa is most likely to be true.
I've used photoshop since 3.0, illustrator, I've used less but have had it a long time and InDesign I've had for the past couple of years.
Recently I bit the bullet and quit playing with Uncle Bill and shifted to Apple (many reasons; primarily the stability of the UNIX OS). Before I did this, I contacted Adobe and spoke driectly to sales. Because I had purchased my Adobe products one by one, they would not permit me to upgrade to the Creative Suite but they do support a user in making the shift from one operating system to another, provided you are willing to sign a statement that you have destroyed your old copies of any Adobe product.
Hope that helps.

That is interesting. I spoke to the Adobe rep at a seminar in Dallas last winter and she said that they WILL allow upgrade to CS if you have several other single applications. I have PS, InDesign, Illustrator and GoLive and wanted to upgrade to the full CS package. I decided to wait until CS3 was out, however.

I'm in the same boat of waiting for CS3, but I wasn't sure if they are going to release CS3 when Photoshop CS3 comes out, or if other products in the suite had seperate development tracks. I'm on a windows tract with a Core 2 Duo machine and an older P4 based Celeron. I'm going to retire the Celeron machine at some point with another Core 2 machine. Though I can definitely appreciate the frustration with the Microsoft OS. I need to be on windows for my job.
I tried to update from the Creative Suite to PS CS2. No luck! I argued with adobe how insane it was that I was being penalized for trying out multiple products of theirs in the Creative Suite, that I don't use at all and that they won't let me upgrade what I use. I battled, but they would only let me upgrade the entire suite. I almost didn't get the money back I spent on the online upgrade for PS.
