Hey guys,

Here is a sunrise shot of Graveyard Fields on the Parkway from this fall. What do you think?

My question is does anyone know of any good sunrise locations in or around Raleigh? I will be in Raleigh the third week in March and I would like some ideas for sunrise. Thanks in advance.

Nice one, Les. The warm morning light and fog clinging to the trees really make this one for me. Looks like you might have a dust spot to clone out - top of the image at the verge of ridges.

Can't help ya with the Raleigh locations, though. Other folks here might.

Thanks Richard. I missed it when I was processing, I guess sharpening made it pop out. It is history now.

Hi Les!

We don't always get good sunrises this time of year. My preferred location for sunrise and sunset here in the Raleigh / RTP area is Jordan Lake, where there are a number of good places to shoot.

Hi Les

Another option is Falls Lake. It is north of (and maybe closer to) Raleigh. Jordan is west. There is a lot of public land around these lakes; game lands and state park properties. I would like to offer to show you around, but I may be in Utah then. If time is an issue, let me know what part of the area you need access from and I might be able to scout some locations for you closer to your visit. And before I forget, watch out for the fire ants and their mounds!

Hello Les: I think your photo is definitely different from the usual sunrise photo. The star of the show is clearly the light and in particular, the sun. The eye is guided to the sun by the rays of light and the overall golden tone of the photo. There is no doubt in this photo that the sun is King. I may comment that the bushes in the foreground might have blended in better with the overall eternal and misty look of the photo had they been a little less contrasty. If you can go back to the photo and tone down the contrast on the foreground bushes only you may be able to decide if this is truly advantageous or not. I would love to hear your comments and your advise. Amada
