I know this shot has a lot to be desired, but I thought I would share anyways. This was taken a couple weeks ago in the middle of the day during a trip to the Skagit Valley for some Eagle picture taking. It is located just northeast, on Hwy 20, of Newhalem, WA. The lake was freezing over and the sun was just over the peak. (Blow-out) I used 5-stops of ND to bring out the clouds and just couldn't get out the shadows. Still a nice place to shoot though.

Dave, If I had a lot of money would work on developing ND's that you could configure to the scene, Oh well that wont happen. I hear Nikon has software that it either out or coming out that will let you drop in a ND ( effect) into a section of an image. If that's the case this will be a good candidate for that software ( I haven't seen it or used it yet). Taken into consideration all you had working against you this let's us know that its a cool place to get to.
Dave, did u get any good eagle pictures in the valley ?

Dave,
Very nice triangle of ice leading us in from the lower right. I would suggest some work with curves to open up the shadows. I'm sure the original digital image has more shadow detail than is showing in the low res jpg. Also, I would imagine that there was more color in the clouds at the top.

I really like where you're going with this one. If you can manage to pull a little detail out of the shadows (maybe try doing a second RAW conversion with about 2 stops of compensation, then overlaying it), you've definitely got a winner.

This is cool! I really like the monochromatic look.

Thanks for the comments, I'm heading back up this way, maybe this weekend. I did however capture some eagle shots As Pardeep asked. I posted one of them on the Avian section of NPN
