Is anyone using this tripod? Any recommendation? Is it comparable to a Gitzo 2220?

Thanks,
Frank

Hi Frank,

I have this tripod, I have not had any opportunities to compare it to any other mfg models as it has been my first one. It is extremely heavy duty being able to hold up to around 26 lbs if I remember right. The weight of the tripod is about 6 1/2 lbs. The center post coming out so you can then use it in a vertical mode for macro work is a great feature.

The only weak point in my opinion is the locking devices for the leg length which you manipulate by screwing and unscrewing a locking nut at each of the 3 sections on each leg. I personally think this is the only drawback as the flick of a knob on the manfroto / bogen models is much quicker.

Mitch--

The leg locks have a pro and con. I used to use a Bogen tripod that had the lever locks. They drove me nuts. They always seemed to snag on something as I took it out of my car, or on branches while I was walking in brushy areas. The Gitzo I use has the screw lock legs. Once I got used to having to do them in an order, they were fine. They never snag on anything, which makes them great in the field. Never pinched my finger on them either.
