A chance shot of a Shoveller flying past one of the WWT hides at Slimbridge. I'm not too sure about the trailing water droplet and I'm tempted to lose it.

Canon 1D MkIIN
Canon 600mm L f4 IS USM
1/1300@f8 iso 200 raw manual exposure
Gitzo 1348 cf tripod and manfrotto 393 head
5% crop to tighten the framing slightly
Processed in C1 Pro and CS2

I reckon you should lose the water droplet as it confuses the eye, nice shot of the shoveller in all its technecolour glory.

Fantastic flight shot with beautiful colours in the wings. For this kind of web presentation maybe loose the droplet but if you intend to show this any bigger (particularly as a print) dont lose it as its additional detail for the eye to study. At the reduced size we view stuff on the web it may be confusing but printed these little details are usually really interesting and something I as a viewer would always look for.

Interesting to see Phillip is a left to right flight man :) Personally I prefer right to left as I feel the eye naturally scans from left to right and is led onto and stops on the subject moving towards the eye. Looking at a flight shot going from left to right my eye continues past the subject and 'falls' off the image.

Anyone have other thoughts on this?

Hi Kevin,

I like it as it is. I think flipped you lose the focus on the bright eye and as you said as it is it holds your view in the frame.
