barn owl
First decent break in the weather i get to shoot this owl and my shutter breaks on the mk11. So i have to use my spare 10d.
I know its not very sharp and maybee a bit hot but i just thought id post it and see what you think. Quite a bit of usm and some cropping and added a bit of contrast . Matt

I'm wondering how much of a crop this is from full frame?
Did you take any in vertical?
This pose looks to be calling out for it being shot upright. Still a good shot and with lovely light too.

How many shots has your Mk11 taken? Mine's on the high side of 150,000 and I'm beginning to wonder if it would be prudent to get the shutter changed before it decides to go when I'm using it.

Cheers

Thanks john, very little cropping but quite a lot of sharpening. I may try verticall tomorrow and post. The mk11 had only a about 8000 shots through it . Never been dropped or banged . I supose its just luck of the draw.Even though its only a hobby i did really miss it though while it was in for repair. Took three weeks and they did a service and clean also.

Nice pic Matt - excellent light through the wings that provide that magical barn owl moment.

Your experiences show the need to have a back up body at all times though as the good old 10D is still capable of getting good shots as long as the user is up to it!!

Matt - cracking shot no doubt. :toast:

The light through the translucent wings is fantastic. I would agree that it would be interesting to see a vertical shot but I would prefer to see it before assuming that it would be better.

What time of day was this shot at? I guess early morning/late afternoon but exactly how early/late.

Thanks,
Niall

Superb with the light shining through the wings and rim light round the owls face.

Lovely image Matt. Looks a bit yellowy-green on my monitor but I'd love to have a shot like this in my library.
