Hello all, I've just joined the NPN and I'm looking forward to perusing through all the various sections, it looks a great site and I only wish I'd discovered it sooner! Anyway I shall introduce myself, my name is Paul and I live on Guernsey in the Channel Islands. Unfortunately Guernsey isn't blessed with a huge variety of wildlife but we more than make up for that by the large number of birds we have here, both resident & seasonal visitors. So as a lover of bird photography I could think of worse places to live!
Here's a shot I took last weekend of a Razorbill. I'm lucky enough to live overlooking a large bay on the east coast of Guernsey and one morning I spotted this Razorbill diving a couple of hundred yards from the shore. I grabbed my camera and ran down to watch him from a nearby slipway. After taking a couple of long distant shots he completley took me by surprise by suddenly emerging from a dive about 6 feet from where I was standing! After a frantic fumble to re focus I managed to get this shot, in my hurry I forgot to alter the aperture and hence failed to get the whole bird in focus!
Welcome to the forum Paul,
A fine image to open your account with and it's sounds like a great experience having the bird suddenly emerging right in front of you.
Look forward to seeing more of your shots in due course.

WElcome indeed - anyone who lives overlooking the sea will always have my envy living as I do in landlocked Shropshire!!
Shame about the slight lack of DOF but we've all been there and you did well to get a nice pic.
Look forward as well to seeing some more of your work.
