Canon 1D Mark II N, 600IS, ISO 640, AV mode, 1/200 @ f4 comp +0.33, C1Pro, CS2.
Shot on my recent trip to the Aviemore area in pursuit of Crested Tits but I couldn't turn down the opportunity of some time with the Red Squirrels. Not the best light in the world unfortunately but this chap had clearly read the script and posed beautifully for a couple of frames. Would've wished for more DOF here.

What a cracking shot of such a beautiful creature. If I were being picky I'd probably crop an inch or so of the top and like you say f/8 or thereabouts would have been spot on.
Thanks for sharing.

Very nice. Like the comp as is but would have darkend the top left corner to remove the bright spot.
Top shot, and great light actually (dull light is much better than sunlight). I would never take a shot at 640ASA - too soft and needing more than 30 seconds work in photoshop to rescue it (in my humble opinion, any more time proves something is wrong). I always take the risk with slower shutter speeds at lower ASA (no higher than 350ASA) to get much better sharpness. Looks great as a web image though. Better than any red squirrel pic I've taken.

Nice image John. Looks like you've been on a workshop with Neil McIntyre.
I thought I recognised the branch that your crested tit was on as I have an image of one from the same spot.
Looks like you had a fruitful trip.

The red squirrel is obviously a professional to pose like that. How many nuts did it cost you in payment?
Despite the highish ISO,a superb image , although I agree with the comment about the TLHC.
