Curious Cat, Tomales Point
I figured the bobcat would take off as soon as I left the trail, but it kept letting me get closer. It was sitting up at first, but hunkered down as I approached. A deep ravine prevented me from making a close approach with the sun at my back, so I had to circle around and settle for backlight. I hung out for a few minutes from my spot behind a coyote bush, but it suddenly tired of my company (maybe finally got my scent?) and bolted into cover.

Nice shot here, John. They are very beautiful and extremely quick too. I have seen some very large ones over the years too. When I was a kid we lived out in the middle of nowhere. However, we were in a small track of homes that never made it beyond about 20 total. The way the street sloped down hill the bobcats at night would jump between the houses on the composition rock covered roofs and you could hear the activity in the middle of the night. I loved growing up in that area; it was the best of all worlds back then.

You're two straws shy of a great nature shot. It looks like a beautiful animal. You're lucky.

Wow, this is one cool image! The look on the animal's face is quite something.
