REPOST Tufted Duck
Not posted for a couple of months as i've been rather unwell, but managed a trip to WWT Slimbridge in Gloucestershire on saturday. Arrived at 7:45am and then had to wait for 4 hours in the freezing cold waiting for the fog to lift which it did at around 12:30pm and the sun came out. After I had warmed up I managed one or two flight shots

Canon EOS 1-D Mark II, 300/2.8L IS + 2x II, f/5.6 @ 1/2000 sec, ISO 320
Very slight trim off the bottom to remove the top of a tree.

Sharp, great pose from the duck, only minor wish (personal thing) is that I would perhaps like to see some slight movement in the wings.

Glad to here you are feelling better.... seems like Slimbridge was the only place with the fog on Saturday....

Hi Larry

Great timing, tufty's are quite comical when they come into land at 100 mph. :toast:

cheers

Good shooting...they are pretty rapid things in flight. Bit mixed on Phil's comment above some motion in the wings  Ok, I've thought about it and he's right I reckon
But it's pretty minor and I've nothing close to this. Good one! :toast:

Good points re the motion in the wings, to capture movement in the wings then the duck needs to be in full flight with wings flapping not coming in to land, thing is at this point during the landing sequence the wings aren't actually moving that much they are just acting as big flaps to reduce the air speed.

I have a few shots of tufties flying by with flapping blurry wings but they are a bit small in the frame.

The guys in the avian forum suggested a slight trim off the RH side of the image
