Cliff Canyon Falls
Otherwise known as St. Mary falls, in Glacier National Park. I liked the wide angle perspective, including the varied rock striations and lichens on the canyon walls.

5D, 17-40 at 17mm, polarizer, 2.5 sec. at F14.

David, I have no doubt we can all agree there. However, I just wasn't allowed to include both the rock stiations and more of the falls from this perspective. I personally don't mind too much because I think it's a much stronger comp with the rock so I was willing to sacrifice a bit of the falls. Landscape photography is rarely perfect so there is often tough decisions to be made about what to include and exclude to attain the best possible comp. Still, if this works for you as-is please let me know. If I should chuck it in the recycle bin, that would be good to know also.

Marc, I enjoy this image and the leading lines that are created in the rocks. You make me continue to go back and look at my GNP images to see if I have anything more to work on. I must have missed this falls when I was there last year.

I really like how the rock striations compliment the wide angle perspective. The lines and perspective lead my eye towards the back pool but there's nothing in particular to look at back there. The angle of the white water in the foreground works very well with the striations so I'd be inclined to drop the angle of view to include more foreground and less of the trees in the back.

Marc, this is nice IMO, i love the perspective of this, the rocks in this take me back, and i think the detail is amazing, all the little details in this! I would stare at this in print, and I do not mind the falls so much being behind the rocks, I think showcasing the geology in this, relly defines the area. Reminds me of some nice limestone in the ozark region. very cool.

Marc,

I'm not on this board that much (I had a system crash and had to rebuild all my links, so I've been gone for quite a while), but when I am, I always look for your posts.

Yet another incredible shot. Question though, would it have been possible to move a little to the left to get the entire waterfall in the back in the picture?

I've seen many shot of St. Marys Falls, most focusing on the waterfall itself. The gorge is as pretty as the falls are, imo, and this is one of the most refreshing shots of the area I've yet seen. Absolutely top notch Marc.

I really enjoy looking at this shot, Marc. It's a very fresh perspective of this area so you should be able to get a lot of people excited just for that. The shot itself has a lot going on that is all great. the rock wals leading to the stream. I don't mind not having the whole waterfall in the shot, there is enough of it showing to be mysterious in a good way. You might want to double-check your horizon... for some reason I tilt my head to the Left just a bit...

Marc,

I agree it is a nice perspective on a popular location in the park. I really like that you've got such a wide angle and yet the image is uncluttered (among the many things I struggle with). I think you'd also have a very nice image with a tighger crop of the falls and the pool in the center of this image. The blue-green-yellow-red of the pool reminds me of all the colors in the hot springs of Yellowstone.

Great shot,
-Brett

Marc,

Without restating others views, this is ( to me is one of your best shots). If I had another wall, I'd ask you for a print. However, I'll wait until we get to Oregon. We are getting more bites on our house here in Ohio.( keep in mind its 7 degrees as I write this email).

Wonderful shot Marc.

MAn, that is some serious detail, the striations leads the eye nicely. Great image!

This is so incredible - detail here is out of this world. I would do anything to get my images this sharp and detailed. I wish you would offer workshops.

Great shot Marc!! I also like the striations in the rock and the super wide helps to use those lines to create depth. That splash of water at the bottom is a great touch too. It really helps to fill the frame and add more great lines. Great range of color too!
