This morning was foggy and frosty and I was pleased to find a cooperative prairie falcon perched on vegetation just above the snow. I used a 600mm lens with a 1.4X telconverter + 1.5X Nikon multiplication factor for 1260mm on a window mount.
On further review...a biologist says the bird may be a merlin, which was my initial thought, but there are sooo many color variations.
Darren, no the wind was picking up and I only shot the one comp of the R'brush at 400 ISO.
Kalin: I shoot often, but mostly close to home in short doses. I'm fortunate to have Rocky Mountain Arsenal as an option, but oftentimes shoot around the Flatirons, which is very close.

Good catch!
The comp. is quite pleasing IMO.

My vote is for a female Merlin. But regardless of which species it is, it is still a wonderful image.

Very nice work, Dave! The falcon/merlin shot is fantastic, and I like the perspective and crisp feel of the rabbitbrush image.

Cooperative prairie falcon? I think it's frozen! Great shots, both.
