Greetings - I'm looking to pick up a D200. I'd like to hear from folks who have bought this camera and where - good experience? Bad service? Anything.......
Cheers

Stay away from the cheapest sources such as you would see advertised in Popular Photography or the other magazines. You *might* get the camera, and for an extra charge, accessories such as a manual, lens cap, battery...
The places most consistently recommended are BH, Adorama and KEH, plus Midwest Photo and Badger Graphic, although the last two places are better known for their large format equipment.
There are a couple of sites that evaluate retailers. The above mentioned places always come up on top, plus a few others I have not personally dealt with. A lot of the other NYC retailers are hard pressed to reach a "1" rating on a ten point scale.
Wherever you buy, spend a few extra buck and go to a respected store, or even your local retailer, if that is an option for you.

I've personally bought things from BeachCamera, com, as well as B&H and Adorama. I know people who have purchased from Abe's of Maine as well. There are a couple of nice things about these sites :
1) The show you prices from a lot of retailers.
2) The retailers are all rated and you can look at customer service comments in some cases.
BeachCamera was highly rated, I had terrific service - received my camera in a couple of days, well packed, billing was well done.
Good luck!

Hunts Photo and Video out of Mass. is a good place. So is Berger Brothers on Long Island.

Thank you everyone! I was hoping I would sell my last F5 (and an F3) before picking up the D200, but after 200+ viewers and no nibbles, it's time to move on........
Cheers

Jeff, you might want to check out Kenmore Camera (in Kenmore, obviously). I just bought a D2Xs there and got a great price, great service. Highly recommended.

I got mine along with the 18-70 kit lens last April from Beach Camera. (they were $1999.00, then). Quick shipment.

B&H is the standard, but obviously there are other places too. I had good luck the time I tried Hunts and would buy from again. Note that the D200 has been out for awhile and there is likely a replacement coming out fairly soon, and the new Fuji S5 is being released also. When that happens the best deal on a D200 will be a used one, for sure. I looked at the D80 and D200 a couple of months ago and decided that for me, there wasn't enough difference to justify the extra $$ since they share many components, including the sensor. I put the money towards a lens.
Maybe it no longer available, but I bought a D200 through Amazon.com because the price was as low as I'd seen at that point, shipping was free and it was actually coming from Adorama camera who I've used with good luck in the past. No problem at all (except that UPS wouldn't leave the box without a signature).

I just happened across a decent deal at New Egg for the D200. $1550 with free shipping. No, it's not a photography store, but a D200 is just a computer with a sensor and a lens mount anyhow....
Don't forget to check Ebay . The D200 has been out long enough now that you might get some barely-used deals. I love mine- far better than the D1X I had.

Okie dokie - This has been technorama week here at the office. Picked up my D200 from Calumet, and have also just set up my Imacon Precision II..... so many buttons, so little time....
Thanks everyone for your opinions. I had superb dealings with Calumet before, and Nikon had a $100 instant discount.......
