Hello everyone. This particular shot was taken a couple weeks ago when we got that snow storm come through. I was up there in the BM's and as the sun started setting it lit up this cloud formation in front of Basin Mtn. I was really intrigued by the its shape which reminded me of a halo or ring over the mountain. I'm on the fence about this image, I like the subtle color and shape of the clouds, but that seems to be all that's going for this image. Maybe it's too plain and not enough depth, or sustance, if you will.

Care to comment?

There's snow in the forecast for the high country, how much though is the big question. Have a great weekend!

Cory,

This is another one of those "fleeting moment" captures; one minute it's there, the next minute, gone. This almost looks like the top of a volcanoe letting off steam and ready to blow. I certainly don't think it's plain, but does lack depth as you mentioned. You're fortunate to have the slight breakup in the clouds near the top allowing some blue to come thru, otherwise, I might be tempted to crop some of the sky.
Great light, great capture. I like it.

It's got a nice contrast between the soft even, yet massive clouds, and the high frequency detailed mountain that gives this scale. The first impression is actually pretty powerful and unusual. If I keep looking at it however and start analyzing, I loose that feel, and the image starts feeling more plain to me, and I think, as the photographer you might be in that state where it's now hard for you to realize what this photo has going for it anymore. It's good.

This really works for me Cory. I agree with Lon's suggestion to crop the sky a bit. This by no means 'plain' to me, Cory. Good job!

btw: Every East Side image you post makes me more homesick. Don't stop, though!

Thanks for the great feedback everyone. We got some good snow above 8000' and rain below that. I hiked/snowshoed up to the meadow below the Horton Lakes yesterday. It was a spectacular day. What made it even nicer was the trail had already been broken in by someone else! I'll post some shots as time allows. Thanks again!

Preston: Anytime you want to head over I'm up for it. And yes, Hope Valley would be a good place to meet up and explore. I did take the time to walk around the little use area where the 88 & 89 split. It had a good feel to it.
