Night before last, for the second time in less than two months, we had to say goodbye to one of our beloved canine children. Our dear little Cheyenne took ill Wednesday night, and by Thursday evening she was gone, the victim of a tumor that none of us knew was even there until too late. We hoped they'd find a way to extract the thing with clean margins in surgery, but it wasn't to be, so we let her go.
This grey, foggy photo cannot begin to convey the sadness and despair my wife and I are currently feeling. Our two remaining dogs sense the void also. It's so hard to say goodbye to a pet that you consider a cherished member of the family, but they add so much to our lives that the pain of loss is worth it.

So sorry to hear of the loss you, your wife and canine buddies are suffering. Your photo expresses your mood well. We lost our 15 year old friend last September and still find ourselves thinking in terms of him still being here...it is tough. Hope your remaining two can get you through this.

Todd - I'm very sorry to hear that you lost Cheyenne. Not having had pets growing up, I was a little perplexed to see how distraught my wife and her family were when they lost Erin - a remarkably loveable Irish Setter. What I was missing, I am certain, was an understanding of how integral pets become to the lives of their human companions, and vice-versa. I'm not sure I fully understand it even today because I've still never had a pet, but I no longer doubt the sincerity of that relationship or the sincerity of the grief felt at the inevitable parting.
I've found it to be a balanced equation of life, that the magnitude of love one feels for another life is equal to the magnitude of distress and sorrow that one feels with the passing of that life. One can't exist without the other, and what a sterile life it would be without either.
Hearfelt condolences and warm wishes to you and your wife. And, here's to Cheyenne and fond memories of her.

It's always sad to lose a family member ! Getting out to shoot, though, is good therapy!
So sorry to hear that, Todd. As a proud "parent" of several canines and felines I can relate to how hard it is to lose such a dear companion.

Hey Todd, I am so sorry!!!! It is terrible to have lost both of these special friends in such a short space of time. I wish there was something that could be said which could make the pain go away and set everything right, but there isn't. In that void left by those we love is only grief, which seems a miserable companion, yet in truth it is a friend which in the right time leads us out the other side. Todd, in a very small way we all share in your pain today.

That's really tough news, Todd. I'm sorry that you have to go through this- again. I watched some of my family members go through this recently, so I can imagine how painful it must be. Hopefully fond memories of these friends bring some comfort.
Just read this post and my heart sank. I simply don't have the words to express what I'd like to say. Marla and I are very sad for you and Barb today. Hang in there brother.

Sorry to hear Todd. My wife and I have three pet children ourselves, and I couldn't begin to think what it would feel like to lose one.

Todd:
I'm so very sorry to hear of the loss of your pup. They do indeed become part of the family and losing one is very painful. I hope you find peace in knowing the Cheyenne is no longer in pain.
My thoughts are with you.

Todd,
Sometimes I get the feeling that our canine pets are far better examples of goodness than some of our human counter parts. Sorry about your pup.

Sorry to hear about your loss Todd. Having had dogs all through my childhood and now as well, I know what you are going through. I think the saddest part is seeing the other dogs dealing with the void in their daily routine. Just wondering where there best bud has gone to...
