Hi Guys,
Not much to shoot these days, as it is clouded and windy. Still i went to visit my favourite Buzzard who showed up at one of his hunting spots.
This time to my surprise he flew my way, and sat down right in front of me at only 4 meters, and stared at me as if to say "allright...just take the shot...i'll pose.."..
Greetings,

Very nice Jeroen and I like the fact that it completely fills the frame - makes it more dramatic!

Amazing sharpness and DOF. Are you sure it was F5 at 4m with a 1360mm lens? If i tried this I think I'ld get about 1mm depth of field not to mention cutting off all but it's nostril!!!
A shot with lots of impact - looks like he's checking himself out in the lens or asking 'Got a spare Rabbit or two in there with you?' .
David, I think Jeroen has included the 20D's 1.6 crop factor in the lens length multiplication... 500x1.6x1.7=1360. In reality you're looking at a 500mm + 1.7x giving an 850mm effective length.
I think a lot of us would love a wild buzzard to be this friendly...unless we where Rabbits

Bl**dy hell...... not much to shoot so you'll settle for the Buzzard? I'm lucky to see a Buzzard within 300 yards! Nice impacting pose and very sharp

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your kind words!
To David: Nick is right i have included the 20D's 1.6 crop factor, wich turns the combination into a 1360mm.
To Graeme: I should be more thankfull having this buzzard who let's me get so close to him, but after a dozen or so sessions with this guy i am allmost getting used to having him around, i hope he will be around for a long time to come!
Very nice indeed with great detail, but just a tad tight for me (personal preference so not a nit as such)
I have noticed your mention of a 1.7 extender would you care to elucidate.... I have always wished that Canon made a 1.7, have you found a third party one?
All the best

Hi Phil,
About the 1.7 Converter..
The 1.7 converter is a Soligor converter, and the strange thing is that theoretically it should not auto-focus on the 20D with the 500 4.5 as 1.7x F 4.5 =F 7.65. Still this is the only converter i have found that does auto-focus with this combination turning it into a 1360mm F7.6 lens (1.6 cropfactor of the 20D included)
The quality of the converter is not less then that of a Sigma, Kenko, or even not much less a Canon (i have owned all these brands, and tested them all).
Also AF-speed is still remarkably fast with this converter.
I hope to have helped you a bit with this info, and i highly recommend the Soligor 1.7x TC.
