I am taking Friday off as a shutter day and need some suggestions for some good locations given the weather. I'm considering an overnight at the Sand Dunes or Buena Vista, Collegiate Peaks area or that neighborhood. Recommendations anyone?

After watching the ever changing weather forecast over the past couple of days, it looks like Arches NP will be the best bet for Friday. Although a 6.5 hour drive is a bit much for a day trip.
But who knows maybe we will get a break from the wind and snow locally some time on Friday. Saturday is looking like the better day for shooting so far.

I certainly think that a viable option would be to shoot the collegiates or Mosquito/ten mile range for sunrise and hope for clear eastern skies. Then you could get back to the front range by either going north through leadville which would take you back to Mayflower gulch for sunset, or go south towards sand dunes for sunset and return via La Veta pass.
As far as Collegiate locations, I don't really have any specifics. The top of trout creek pass is a really nice view and there are some nice areas up towards twin lakes. For the Mosquito/10 mile range, the top of Hosier pass or Crystal Point off of swan lake road have nice views.

There is a scenic overlook/picnic area on Hwy 24 on a ridge just east of Johnson Village (about five miles southest of Buena Vista). It has a nice view of Mt. Princeton and the other Collegiate Peaks. It would be a good location for a sunrise/early morning shot, especially if the pines in that area still have some snow on them. You can also use the trees to cover up some of the buildings that still can be seen in the valley below in your composition.
I agree with the suggestions above. It's not too far a drive from there to get to the Mosquitos/Hoosier Pass and Mayflower Gulch to the north or the Sangres and Sand Dunes to the south. Good luck and post what you shoot so we can see!
