Sneffels this morning, as seen through a 300mm on Nikon D100, just up the road from my cabin.
Now that the sun is rising higher in the sky these days, the northern side of the Sneffels Range is starting to get better light, so I'm starting to shooting more around here than I have been this winter so far.

Too bad a Jack Brauer Sneffels photo is already on the cover of a Colo. Fourteeners calendar. I'd use this sucker in a heartbeat!

Sneffels is one of my favorite mountains. This photo certainly does it justice. Beautiful!

Jack,
I love that shot! Any cabins for sale next to yours?
I have a question about that area. What do people do for a living out there near Ridgway? It looks like primarily agriculture, tourism and construction of some type. When I was there this fall there was an ungodly amount construction vehicles blazzing by me along the 63 hwy heading west. There must be a lot of construction or mining out that way.
Just curious.

Great photo Jack! Is this from CR5? I am hoping to visit your hood in early or late March.
You have a calendar cover photo? Please send us a link. That is awesome.
Nice snow/cloud/blue interplay - sweet shot Jack! It's time to start getting out of the cabin!

Where the heck is your cabin?

Jack,
You must have found my tripod holes That's such a great view when the clouds roll in. I caught it just as the first big December storm was clearing. Try it in B&W.

Alot of nice elements here. Frosty trees, low hanging clouds and a little light coming over the ridge. A nice image all around.

Thanks for your comments, everybody!
Derek - I think construction is by far the biggest industry in this region. There's a lot of ranching around here too. Fortunately I have my own little economic bubble with my web development/photography business, so I'm not too tapped into the local economy; cause there's not much of it around here!
Momo & Jon - This is from County Rd 5, but probably not where you're thinking... not up on the mesa by Elk Meadows, but down near Dallas Creek under Log Hill Mesa... closer to the reservoir.
Momo, I'm stoked on the calendar cover shot, but I don't have any info about it or when it's coming out... I'm sure Todd knows!
Bill - I did try it in B/W and it looks good if I bump up the contrast... but for some reason I like the blues for this one better.

Because you asked...
This is the first time I've selected someone else's photo for the cover of one of our CO Fourteeners calendars. In the past it was a logistics issue with a certain company's early catalogue deadline, but since that wasn't an issue this year, I decided to give someone else the spot. I think you'll agree that Jack's photo fits perfectly. (He's got a killer shot of Crestone Needle on the inside, too!)

Thank you Todd for the photo. I've never seen the Mountain from this location. Must take a lot of hiking to get there. Beautiful comp and light, BTW.

It seems like 'most' of that area is private ranch land.
Are there any decent hiking trails one can take near Sneffels? When I was driving on CR5 this fall there were several signs clearly stating 'Private Land, Stay on the Road.' Once I parked the car and walked just a bit off the road to get a better composition. But I felt like any further exploring would be very unwelcome.
Just curious.

Hike into Blaine Basin, for one. I'm suspecting Jack's calendar shot is some variation of that.

Both are super shots, Jack. Congrats on the calendar cover!

Stellar shot! It's amazing how imposing that mountain looks from this vantage point... whereas when I "climbed" it from YBB last summer, you'd never know how majestic and impressive it really is.

Stunning image Jack, and congrats on the calendar too! Both are wonderful!!!
