Epson 7600 Only Prints in Green and red

Ice storms in the area knocked our power out for about 18 hours this week. My 7600 was turned on when the electric went off.

Now it only prints in primarily green tones, with areas of bright red and black shadows thrown in. I've tried different computers, thinking it was my new system and new drivers that was causing the problem, but it wasn't. My old computer printed the same way. (Ti Powerbook and MacBook Pro, OS X 10.4.8)

I switched computers, reinstalled drivers, changed papers, changed
profiles, no effect.

The nozzle check is clean, clogged jets was my first thought. I ran a cleaning cycle with no change.

Could internal settings have been scrambled? Is there a way to reset everything to default? I did the 3 second reset button on the control panel with no difference.

It's been unplugged now for about 24 hours. I'm not sure if there are any settings that will be forgotten and relearned after an extended time without power. It did fix an old 1270 I had.

Any thoughts? I'm waiting to hear from Epson, but that will probably be sometime Mon or Tuesday.

Did you install/reinstall the latest printer firmware? It should be BN1452_Q.UPG. Since the printer uses a flash memory for the firmware this could be the problem. You can find it at the epson site. It tells you how to check the version you have also. I would do this just on general principles.
If you have the alternate firewire input you might try that also.. instead of the USB port. Since it does it with multiple computers I would try that. What happens when you print something simple like a text document?
I work at Wash. St. Univ. in a repair shop so I have a little background in this type of thing. The things listed above would be the 1st things I would do.. Good Luck.. Oh.. does the demo test page look ok.. or is it the same as your prints?

Hi Duke,

I tried all of the above, to no avail.

Epson says it is the main board. They think the color look up tables are scrambled. So essentually I have a large format B+W only printer.

Decision One called me up and quoted $2000 in parts, $200 service fee, plus $175 and hour. Talking to the Epson tech, it sounded like it could be done for a much more reasonable amount, maybe $600? The board is about $360

Any suggestions of other repair options in the Cincinnati area?

I guess I will be starting my search for another used 7600. . .

Very, Very Big Christmas Cards!

Actually I considered using it for abstract art, but it is in the shop now, and I'm waiting for some good news.
