Hi,
The colours in the water are very attractive and the bird's slight head turn towards the camera works well.however, two things which let the image down IMHO are the shooting angle looking down towards the bird, which perhaps was unavoidable if shooting from a public hide, and secondly the image looks a little under-exposed with little detail showing in the black plumage.
Worth scouting out a few different locations if possible where the setting will allow you to get a much lower viewpoint.
Indeed a metering nightmare! I like the colours in the water. Certainly a lower viewpoint would improve it if it were possible.

Advice is only any good if you take it on board and use it. I shall not repeat what was said on your previous post but the same applies to this shot.
Keep trying and learn as much as you can from others.

Not the easiest bird to exposue properly. It does look underexposed and a lower viewpoint would also enhance the image. Good try!

Hi Barry
Coots are a nightmare to photograph well, they really need good sunlight to show any detail at all in the feathers. In this situation the water colour and texture is the key feature, maybe trying to photograph this bird a bit smaller in the frame and use it as a silhouette against the water might be more effective in this situation.

As Rob said, some good advice was given on your last post that still applies here. It's also useful to include your techs is you want further advice. Things like shutter speed, aperture, iso, hand held or tripod would help to. This may have been a 30 second hand held exposure, which would mean it's a great effort

6 repliesI was struggling findng the correct settings with the black feathers and eye definition the sunset reflection enhanced the subject for me.
Advice C&C please.
Thanks
