I finally made it out to this very interesting area on Saturday. It was a cold day to be out, but it worked out OK. I did have the place to myself!
There were quite a few black and white images that I developed, but I kind of like this color image.

Thanks for looking!

Wow Tim, I was very close in deciding to go to Hughes Mountain area on Saturday also but instead ended up exploring around the Mark Twain National Forest near Potosi.
Neat place isn't it? I love the 360 degree views of the surrounding area

Well, it would have been fitting to meet you up there since it was your post of nearly a year ago that got me interested in Hughes Mountain!
It is a very interesting place, and I hope to get our camera club up there on a field trip before too long. I'm glad I got to see it with some snow on the ground since it will be a completely different place the next time I am there.

damn, now I am kicking myself for not going on Saturday... I was going to head out there late day because I noticed the clouds were breaking and thought to myself that there was a good chance for a great sunset but I decided to try to hunt down a lake in MTNF that a friend of mine told me about.
Have any of you ever checked out Cathedral Canyon and Lower Rock Creek near Fedrickstown?

Nope - but I will.
I didn't think there was a chance in hades of the sky clearing off so I left in the early afternoon. Of course by the time sun set the sky was cloudless . I guess I should have stuck around - I'd have been frozen, but happy.

Hey Tim, I wanted to wait till I saw this on a good monitor before commenting and I'm glad I did. I love the color of the light on the tuft of grass and the contrast in the linear & block shapes found throughout this image makes it fun to explore. Glad you had a good time.
BTW, don't all of you guys get introduced before the Spring gathering. I don't want to be the only stranger in town that weekend!

I had to wait to see this on a good monitor too. Nice color and detail in the grass, and the snowflakes falling add a bit of drama. Very nice, thanks for posting. See ya in April...
