I was out shooting today when my compact flash in my camera suddenly said "for" meaning format. I can't do anything with it now. I was wondering if anyone knows of a data recovery source you can download that reads raw. This happened to me once before, but I was shooting in jpeg and was able to recover all of my images with a program that I downloaded off the internet. Unfortunately, that program does not read raw. If anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful. These images are not a a big deal as they can be redone, but I would rather recover them. Thanks so much for your help.

SanDisk has a program called Rescue Pro that comes free with their cards that works great. I believe Lexar has a similar program. My brother has hada couple cards freeze up in his camera and he was able to recover all his images.

There are many free utilities you can find. I downloaded PC Inspector: Smart Recovery to get images off of a formatted CF card with good results. Try www.convar.com.

Lexar's program is Image Rescue.

I had a Lexar card die a couple of months ago and was not able to recover the images. I sent it to Lexar for replacement, during which time they also tried to recover the files and were unable to do so. Unfortunately there are situations where recovery is not possible. They did replace the card with no problems, though.

Good luck!

Thanks all for your comments. I realize I didn't tell you what kind of card I have. It is a Kingston and I have contacted them. They said they will try to recover the images, but no guarantees. They will replace the card so that's good. I wanted the images obviously, but because they were senior portraits and couples portraits we were able to redo them. I'm thankful that it wasn't something that couldn't be redone. Anyways, thanks again to all.
