I am going to be purchasing a MacBook Pro laptop soon and wanted to see if anyone had any input on which screen would reproduce the more accurate color for viewing photos. Apparently the glossy screen has a higher color contrast for better movie DVD viewing. I am going to bring a DVD in to the Apple store with a couple of my photos on it to see the difference, but wanted to get opinions from others with more knowledge of "color management" issues than I.

The glossy screen is supposed to have a wider gamut and contrast than the matte screen, but you'll want to use it where there isn't a lot of glare - just like a framed picture...

The glossy screen is less acurate then the Matte. The matte screen shows a truer rendention of color. Trust me, I played with them @ apple before my purschase. I have the MBP, 2.3, and it rocks, you truly will not be unhappy. CS3 just flows on this. Plus the matte has no glare.
oh-even most of the apple people said the matte was better for photographers. It may come down to personal preference, some like the brightness of the glossy, I like the truer rendention of my work!

I have the gloss on my MacBook. It is extremely high resolution, but the reflection can be a bit annoying at times. However, it can be positioned away from light sources and work very well. I really like how bright it is (60% brighter than the older screens, which were way too dim) However, if you have the option of a very high res/ bright matte screen I think that you should go with that option. Just my two cents.

Thank you guys for your input. I was able to take some photos down to the apple store in Denver where they have both screens available. The matte screen IMO is far superior in accurately displaying color. I have also been able to speak with someone at Apple's technical support who was an "advanced amateur" photographer, he emphatically stated the matte screen delivers more accurate results as the glossy screen "enhances the colors and adds contrast". Les, he also said there were no difference in the gamut range between the two screen. Thanks again for your reponses.
