Hello All,
I grew up in Norwich Vermont and have only recently, in the past year, become interested in photographing local birds. I have a special interest in owls after working in Yosemite California for a summer with the spotted owl.
I would love to see and photograph a snowy owl and from what I gather they do come down to Vermont now and then. I've always wanted to see a sawet owl as well. I've been fortunate enough to have called in a few barred owl and even stirred up a juvenile barred owl which gives that raspy screech. I have the entire month of March off so long driving trips is not a problem.
I know this is perhaps like asking a fisherman where the fish are or what fly is good, but I figured its worth asking.
I'd also enjoy meeting up with a photographer if anyone planning a birding trip in the near future and wouldn't mind taking along an amateur. I'd even enjoy just tagging along to observe someone with experience and leave my camera at home.
Thank you all for your time, enjoy the snow!

Thanks Jeffrey. I checked out Amherst island on the web, looks like an amazing spot for owls. One post said they saw 6 long-eareds in one tree. Sound like the spot.
Thanks again,
-Ronan

The guys run nice trips from Essex, CT http://www.ctriverexpeditions.org/ their eagle trip this winter was great. bring at least a 400mm lens, but you will get good raptor shots.
These guys have a number of birding trips in the tri-state area that might interest you: http://www.ctaudubon.org/
