Oddly, I find myself with a growing collection of matted prints to store. I wish I had one of those snazzy flat files they used to have in art class, but they are pretty expensive. Does anyone know of an inexpensive alternative?

Instead of 'storing' them, why not hook up with a local business and let them 'store' them with a price tag?
Pete: those snazzy flat files are not too difficult to find pre-owned. Watch Craigslist or find a local office furniture/appliance broker. I have a large steel multi-drawer flat file that I found on Craigslist in great shape for only $300.

Hey Pete,
Check local universities and such. I've bought about 6 sets of 10 drawers over the last few years here and there, and at most, paid $100 a section. I even managed to buy a great wood one, for about that price and had it refinished into a nice piece of furniture.
U.C. has a used office store where they clear out old stuff from various departments, such as desks, table, chairs, light boxes, flat files, exercise machines and etc. it's generally only open 1 day week for about an hour or two I think. (think art and geology departments, they just dumped a lot of them from the bookstore redo too)

Try a blueprint or engineer/architect supply house . They carry large flat files for storing drawings. They would work fine for photos. I don't know how they compare, pricewise.
