I know this is a ridiculous question, but are there better bean bags than others ?

I am looking to get one and I know they are cheap, but no point in wasting money if there are better ones to be had.

Thx

I think most people here would recommend the double "H" shaped bean bag rather than a simple single bean bag, they are a lot more adaptable and cradle the lens better when used with big telephoto lenses.

Thx Mike

Any links to it ?

They can be had from wildlife watching supplies or warehouse express my use mine quite a lot it is also worth mentioning that the liners are a good idea it does make the beanbag a little more expensive but I'm glad I purchased the liners with mine.

I use the double bean bag for WWS

Hi Paul,

Doesn't seem to be much difference in the beanbags. The double is best as it hugs the car door, or bird hide window frame. It doesn't make any difference whether they vare camo or not. They're not waterproof though, so if you fill it with rice or beans and you're in a deluge or using it on the coast, it can be waterlogged and rot.

Having used the Wildlife Watching Supplies double beanbag, I recently bought the Kinesis beanbag that you can get through the NaturePhotographers.net / UKNP shop. Its pretty good. It's ideal for my uses as its smaller and, more importantly, waterproof and comes with various compression straps. I've filled it with polystyrene beads so its really light for my long wet walks in search of otters.

Hi Paul,
I use 2 beanbags, both double versions from WWS, but after speaking to Tom he has a WWS double beanbag, but had it made 2" longer in the lenght that hangs over the door.

I bought got Kevin to make me one of these also and its much better than the shorter version, holds on to doors and hides better extremly stable.

You`ll have to ask him for one as they are not advertised.

Yup, the double from WWS is good and I'd recommend buying the linings too at the outset. I didn't and now wish I had

If you're going to use anything like birdseed in the beanbags then don't bother with the linings. The mechanical action of moving the lens around on the bag easily frays/splits the lining material at the seams. Poly beads probably won't have the same issue.

That's quite interesting you should say that Nick. I do fill mine with Birdseed, so I might not bother...thanks :toast:
