I think older versions of ACR (2.x?) may be compatible with Photoshop 7 but they are not listed on Adobe's site. Either way they will not support the latest digital cameras (or any digital camera introduced after Photoshop CS was launched).
I believe at the time it was a $99 upgrade for Photoshop 7. I think you'll be better served by purchasing an upgrade to CS2 (or wait a couple of months for CS3).
In the mean time you can download the beta version of CS3 which is fully functional (with a couple of bugs).

I believe that you need a fully functional copy of CS2 to get the magic numbers to make the CS3 beta version work. However, you can download a 30 trial version of CS2. You might check with Adobe, I think that you can get a free upgrade to CS3 if you have purchased a full version of CS2 within some set time table, 3 months? From what I have seen, CS3 will be well worth it. The new beta Bridge is so much better than the CS2 version, even if it is a bit buggy.
