Hi All,
Does anyone know if it is possible to get the 2x MKII conv, to auto focus using the 600/4? I would like to get one of these but not being able to auto focus will be a big problem, as my plan is to use it mainly for flight shot's.
Any help would be great
TIA
Regards

I thought the 1DMKII would auto focus with the 2.0TC with a f4.
Thats if you own one that is ?.
What cam are you using ?.

Yes it does autofocus on 1 series bodies, but only with the center AF point. Focus aquisition is impaired signifigantly when using the 2x. IS still works, and just as well

Hi Guy's
Thanks for that.
I do have a 1D MKII, but my 600 is the non IS version, so at least it will auto focus but only with the centre point, is that right? So if I miss the shot it will be my technique

You will get AF as others have said, but acquisition and tracking will be problematical with the 2x.

Personally I think you will be very disappointed with a x2TC. I have one but it is only ever used as a last resort as the images it produces are at best only average. The x1.4 on the other hand gives very good images with a 600mm and I regularly use it.

Hi Guys,
Ok thanks for the advice.Looks like buying a 2x would'nt be the best buy on the planet. I have 1.4x but sometimes when the birds are little high, I thought the 2x might be a better option than cropping into the image and losing some sharpness. Perhaps I'll just forget about the shot if it is to high.
Thanks for your help

AF is very slow with a 2x but they have there uses and i tend to use mine more and more these days,Nothing wrong with the quality if you have good light and stop down a little
Probably not the best option for in flight photography.... you do need to stop down to at least f10 - f11 for the best results when using the 2x resulting in slower shutter speeds + as said aquisition is slower, I actually have, as well as the Canon, a Kenko Pro which doesn't slow down the AF and the quality is near to that of the Canon (at least to my eyes)...
