I am trying to decide which Digital SLR to purchase. I want the one that is the easiest to use (weight, lens application, function, etc.) and that will give me the best bird photos. I am considering both the Canon 30D and the Canon Rebel XTI with the stabilized 100-400 lens and the stabilized 17-85 lens. I would really appreciate the opinions of those more experienced than I. BTW I am struggling with the issue of handling my normal bird-watching equipment (scope on tripod and binoculars) and a camera as well and have hesitated in purchasing a better camera also for that reason. Any suggestions?
I have been shooting birds with Canon DSLRs since the D30 days. Using a 100/400L as my main lens(currently with 30D). If I could only own one lens it would be the 100/400L. Works great with taped 1.4 extender. Not too bad for flower close ups etc.

Mike:
You said "works great with a taped 1.4 extender". Taped? Could you provide some more info?
Thx

BJ,
Based on your last comment about handling all the gear, you should check out digiscoping. Google it. There's a lot of info out there. I believe either Outdoor Photographer or Pop Photog did an article on it a few months ago.
