I believe they retracted the $4000 list. Looks like it will be a couple hundred more, at least. The only reason I can think this would happen is that the pre-orders are very high. There's one an interview that says $4139, and another that says price will be set closer to shipping.
In the US if canon hits its schedule, the first dealer cameras will arrive at the end of March.

Hey, folks, the cat may be out of the bag, but if we all stop posting these ecstatic responses to the specs, and to the early ISO 3200 samples, maybe the flood of pre-orders will slacken, and the price will revert to 4k (or less!).
So I hereby announce that I see lots of potential problems with this camera. I was thinking of buying the 1dm2n replacement, but now that I see this noiseridden jerrybuilt rushjob, I'm reconsidering. Of course at $3500...

There is nothing at all to keep individual dealers from marking up prices to whatever they think the market will bear for the release date. Rest assured the market for this camera will be very very hot when it hits the shelves - However, there are a heck of a lot of authorized Canon dealers and you can count on the cost bubble to pop pretty quick with the reality of competitive pressures - by the end of May at the latest, I predict. The dealers who go into the game giving thought to customer loyalty and future repeat sales will be the least likely to gouge the early buyers.

Meint, Isarfoto have it listed for 4300 €. And it should be out somewhere in the end of April
One of the potential problems is that Canon have stated a £3049 RRP in the UK - that nice USA residents is $5974 RRP in your money.
You see the problem!
With the same per unit manfacturing price, why do Europe have to pay $2000 approx more than the USA. This should be a BIG issue for Canon as it could really detract from their amature and pro-am market in Europe for nobody likes to think they are being taken to the cleaners or for granted!
Therefore I think they really only have two options.
1) Drop the UK/Euro price closer to the converted Dollar price.
2) Raise the USA price.
H'mmm, given they are a commercial company, what do you think may potentially happen?
That said, if they don't want what I think could be a potential PR nightmare, they should choose 1.

Tom, when you cut out the VAT, you are in the same league than US. I think that in US average tax is lower than in EU. And UK price is roughly 300 € higher than Isarfoto is pre ordering it for. And as far as I remember, US prices were 20% lower than EU. Call Mr. Major to complain and not Canon .

UK VAT is 17.5%
Cost ex-vat is therefore around $5050. I don't think there is any duty on Digital Cameras even if there is it will be about 3%...
That still makes the camera in the UK approx $1000 dearer than the RRP in the USA.
At a approx $2000 difference between European and USA RRP prices I won't be calling anybody other than a friend in the USA and it will all legal.
There is the reality... with global comms comes a global market.
Anyway I am waiting until October
I'm waiting till the end of the year anyway, and if there will be enough pennies, I might pull the
trigger.
