The Calm Before the Storm
A classic Tunnel View shot from this weekend in Yosemite.

It is from Saturday night after a sunny day just as the storm arrived. I think I might crop a bit of the left but I still like the light on the hill.

Canon EOS 1Ds / EF24-70mm f2,8 @ 43mm / ISO100 1/2sec @ f11 / tripod + MLU + cable release

Cool shot Enrique! Sounds like from yours and Lon's stories, you all had a heck of a trip in more ways than one. Be careful out there!

Very nice! The light is wonderful! You might try to open up the deeper shadows a bit. The detail is there. There is also a piece of a branch intruding on the left side, just above the lower corner. The clouds are really nice and and add a lot to this photo. Good timing!

Nice job, Enrique!

Great light - you're making me jealous - I'm trying to see if I can get there this Sunday - just after the full moon....

By the way - what time did you take the shot?
Thanks.

Hi Michie,

Are you new here? I haven't seen you post here before.

Welcome to CANP!

Thanks guys, I hadn't even noticed the branch! I'm still editing so I haven't really worked on it yet.

Michie, it was 17:45h.

Ah! The first impression looking at is is great. Very saturated, modern in that regard.

You need to say more about the postprocesseing if any, and why/how come you don't have blown out or underexposed parts. It looks like a trick shot to me, the kind that I would expect to achieve with HDR. But maybe it's just special conditions that avoid the usual harsh shadows on El Cap.

I didn't remember the waterfall being so visible from the tunnel. But I guess it's because of the snow and how the photo is so well balanced...

Dan,

No trick, no HDR... just a grad ND filter and correct exposure. Processing was done using Aperture and very minimal adjustments to curves, saturation and shadow detail in PS.

As far as the waterfall... the angle is there, you just need to find it ;-)

Enrique,

Lighting was great, but I don't like snow here and there, kind of distraction to my eyes. It will be great if everything covered in snow or there is no snow at all.

By the way, my mentor showed me that secret spot, but never had optimal lighting so far. Will try this month again, around spring equinox.

I'm impressed with your other collections. Among your other Yosemite images, Valley View is one of the best.
