This is from the gamelands I mentioned in Alice's topic about locations for spring shoots. I'm not happy with the jpeg compression artifacts but I think you can get an idea of the area and see some branches getting ready to bud out.

Thanks Richard. I went back there this morning after work and the NCWRC had performed a controlled burn of the fields so most of the ground is now charred. So I guess that crosses this spot off the spring list!
Alice,
Hey there,
Coming from your direction going towards McDowell County it is 1/4-1/2 mile before the county sign. It would be on your left side. To me it's amazing how much it transforms when you walk into it away from the highway.
Thanks Leann, I'll have to check it out. Is there a sign? I hate to hear there was a burn, but there may still be some interesting sights.

Alice,
There are little square white signs that identify them as public game lands on either side of the driveway leading off 226. If you go soon the pink ribbon maybe still tied on to them as well. The biggest dissapointment is that when I was there on monday I was privilidged to watch a broad winged hawk hunting and it looked so good swooping down over the dried grass/weeds.
This is pretty neat leann, love the colours in this, it has a Spring feel about it!!. Well you know where I'll be this Spring, or actually it'll be Fall :).

I like this alot, especially the muted, earthly colors and the feeling that spring is on its way!
