Hello all,
I'm entertaining the thought of trading or selling my old 600/f4 (non-IS) to Adorama. Anyone have any experience in doing this? They send you a shipping label and have you ship the lens to them at which point they tell you how much they'll give you. If you don't like the $ they ship it back. Wondering if I'll get more off of ebay or not.
Best,
Dave

David,
You probably already know this, but you also can list your equipment on here and see if anyone is interested.

You will always get more money selling your equipment yourself. Dealers will offer you only 1/3 to 1/2 of what they think they can get for your equipment. Dealers have to make a profit and they do assume a higher risk if the lens doesn't sell. Before selling on eBay (there's always a risk of fraudulent payments) advertise your lens here in the classifieds or on other forums such as Fred Miranda Buy/Sell forum.

Ditto what Tom said. I'll add that camera gear begins heating up on eBay in May.
Hi Dave,
You'll be much better off selling the lens yourself. I have use E-Bay many times to sell and buy equipment with great success. You do have to careful, but by folling E-Bay's adivce, you shouldn't have any problems. Good luck. PS: I do wish I was in a position to purchase your lens!

I think I'll send the lens off to canon for cleaning and a checkup. They won't tell me how much that will cost before receiving and looking at the lens. Searched here but can't find anything. Anyone have an idea? Seems like I remember someone on here saying just under $200.
Dave
I asked a large photo retailer (not Adorama) what they would give me for my 500 Canon (non-IS)lens (my cost was $5,000 used) and was offered $800... just to give you an idea what some large retailers are willing to pay. Definitely list here or on Ebay.
Ditto the above. The large retailer offers are always very low. If it were me, I would'nt waste my time and shipping costs sending it to them. Especially since you risk losing or damaging the lens. Ebay works well and is not hard to do, I'd give it a try if no one here wants it.
