Most people here are probably already aware that there is a total lunar eclipse on Saturday, March 3rd. NASA has a nice chart of the Moon's path through Earth's shadow and a visibility map that I wanted to share.
Those of us who live on the western side of the US will not get to see this one, and those in the central part may only get to observe the ending of the eclipse as the moon rises. Moon rise is about 5:30'ish in the evening on the east coast and that is the best location for US observaton. Our (western US) next opportunity for an eclipse will be August 27. Also, we have a better chance of a cloudless sky for observation at that time of year. Pacific Northwest has been mostly cloudy for quite a few days and the forcast is for rainy weekend.
I'm not photo equipped for shooting celestial events, but it's always enjoyable to see them.

I am going to try and see what I can get in the California desert tomorrow for the minute or two that the moonrises.
