What a mess!
1D MkII 500mm+1.4 full frame iso 400 f6.7 1/400

Heron taken today, the only one of 7 nests that is clear enough photograph without too much in the way, and then its not perfect.

But I quite like all the mess of branches going everywhere.

Never the less great to see.

Maybe not perfect, but sums up a heron's nest perfectly.
I seem to remember Nial Benvie having something similar in a magazine a few years ago. :toast: :toast: :toast:

Where was this taken Brian? I see the expandable roof-rack's coming in useful

Be good to see the chicks when they arrive and a typical nest environment :toast:

The heron is clear enough and the 'mess' is pretty uniform.

I like it and it's nice to see.

Different sort of shot - looks like it is taken from a hot-air balloon!

Great viewpoint - are you using a cherry-picker!?

I would really like to say that I climbed a really tall tree, risking life and limb to get the shot........but unfortunitly I can`t,

The picture was taken from a footpath along a busy main road which runs along on top of a hill,it has a low wall running along side it and if you look over, you look slightly down to the tree tops where the herons nest, a river runs below the nests where the herons fish.
So you are almost eye level with them.

Local villagers watch the herons regularly, so they are quite used to seeing humans which is a bonus as I`m sure you agree that herons aren`t the easiest of subjects to capture.

lovely Brian, looks like the w/e trip was worth it - seeing as I haven't got a 500mm lens I think i'll content myself with your pics before I take a trip up there!

I'll let you know about the Dippers - checking them out Weds...
