I missed some really good light up on Pike's Peak. I turned out I was on the wrong ridge, so the view was blocked during alpenglow on the peak. By the time I got to the right place, I had the alpenglow on the foreground rocks. Quite cool. Nothing special here, other then I froze my big bottom off as I explored the place for the first time briefly on Saturday (and I got some extra, unexpected exercise and probably scared the bejesus out of some poor, unsuspecting rocky mountain sheep, as I somehow ended up in a closed area set aside for sheep habitat). It was a cloudy morning, with only a brief period of light. I think it looks stormy with the dark blue sky.
Thanks for the tips everyone.
PS: Since there seems to be some color cast problems with GOTG shots, I used John Shaw's threshold method to eliminate a very slight blue cast. Does the color seem right?
Hi Brian,
Nice shot. The color's fine. If you contact me in advance, I'd be happy to show you all the good spots next time you're down this way. You aware John will be speaking in Denver next weekend?

Really nice, Brian, looks like you found the spot, even if it was on the second attempt. The color is just fine. The conditions are perfect, too. It would've been nice to get alpenglow on Pikes, but the rocks wouldn't be lit and, I would guess, after the fact you'd prefer these images to those with a lit-up mountain/dark rocks. Wouldn't hurt to have both, but if you can have only one, this is the one to have, imo.
