I've been reading this forum for a while but haven't actually contributed anything - so here's a first attempt. I took this shot last week in Martinez. There were just enough clouds to soften the light and just as I was setting up my tripod two deer walked into the field.

Happy shooting!

Kyle,

Welcome to CANP and NPN!

This is quite nice. I love that yellow! The deer are a real plua. I suggest a crop from the top to the top of the tree on the right. You might also consider a slight boost in contrast to make the image 'pop'. There is nice detail throughout.

Just a reminder: Image size must be limited to 720 pixels on its longest side, including any borders or "frames" applied to the photo. Your posted image is 600x900px. Large images can be difficult to view on smaller screens.

Also, while not a requirement; it is helpful to include some technical info about the shot, such as; camera make/model, lens, film type (if using film), filters, and exposure info.

We're glad you're here and look forward to seeing more of your work! I'd like to encourage you to become a 'paid' NPN member; as there are many benefits to membership.

If you have questions, please feel free to e-mail either Anil Rao or myself--we're your CANP moderators.

Best regards,

-PB

Thanks for the feedback Preston - I've reduced the image size per the group's requirement. The technical info is:

Camera: Canon Digital Rebel XT
Lens: Sigma 105mm Macro
Filters: None
ISO 100, f16, 1/50sec

very nice, i like how the animals are framed by the trees. they certainly stick out contrasted against the yellow. would probably be invisible otherwise.

Kyle,

Welcome and thanks for posting. This is a very peaceful and a great capture - especially with the deer wondering in. Actually, I would suggest a crop from the bottom just a bit to give this better balance. But that's a pretty minor nitpick. This is quite nice. Martinez eh? All I can think of is refineries....
But I know there's more than that and you've shown it.

...And I suggest a crop of the top :) LOL! because it's got less data of interrest - you want to keep that yellow theme.

Glad to have you here, Kyle and to get a chance to see your work. This is lovely and refreshingly different from the normal fare produced by landscape photographers. I love the colorful foreground and the inclusion of the deer. A quiet and evocative image.

Regards.
