Anyway, one day last fall I was wandering around eagle creek and stumbled upon it, it's quite a place! I always vowed to come back during high flow levels, as when I was there first, all of the waterfalls you can see (despite the anemic looking main falls) were barely a trickle.
I went last saturday after a week of rain and cashed in big! Now here is the bummer... my camera broke! I took the thing out, snapped a couple of documentary auto pics and then turned off to situate it on the tripod and start working it. Needless to say it didn't turn on again...
Ok, well that sucked but man I was so cold from all the waist deep wading to get here anyway combined with the wind/spray in the canyon that made it feel about 40 degrees that I probably wasn't going to be doing anything spectacular anyway.
Luckily my gf brought her 3.2 mp sony P&S and I managed to take a couple of shots with it. Nothing good, the image quality is awful but here is one I thought I'd post just to tell you all about it and give you a sense of scale. She is about 5'6"
This place is great and not too hard to get to when it is dry. Because of the slope-traversing it requires I would not suggest it with soggy ground. Both my gf and I almost ate it a couple of times on the slopes, and in the strong current as we had to ford a couple of times.
I'd be happy to lead a PNWNP expedition or event to this location come May, we should plan on it! Somebody needs to take a decent pic of this place and it seemingly can't be me.
If you want to go it yourself, take the side trail direcly across the gorge from where wauna falls spashes into eagle creek and have fun bushwhacking!
Sony Cybershot something, exposure unrecorded. Extreme Photoshopping.

Andy - if you are able to go again during the week, let me know. My weekends are filled with doing engagement shoots and client meetings in preparation for the coming wedding season.
P.S. I have chest waders.

It does look like a very cool place. I too would like to make it there sometime.

Awesome, Andy. Very nice to see others venturing into lesser know portions of Eagle Creek. Congrats on making down there - and even more so for convincing the girlfriend it was a good idea! I did it when it was way too wet. I hope to make it down there again someday for another try at it. I know that place has some serious potential!

Marc, yeah it is pretty amazing. Honetly, when I first got there I said to myself "hmm, looks familiar" and I thought of your pic, but I wasn't sure, as in your picture I thought the main falls was maybe only 5 fet tall or so, I had no idea the scale of this canyon, hundreds of feet deep for sure.
The first time I found this was in July and there were no falls running, so I'm sure I don't need to tell you but you pretty much have to go immediately after a couple days of soaking!
