I know Nevada is not part of RM's but folks seem to get around quite a bit so I thought I'd ask.
In late March I be spending a few days in Pahrump NV. (abut 60 NW of Vegas). Thought I bring the camera and look for some photo oppurtunites, especially sunrise or sunsets.
Has anyone been there or close by that has any places to recommend.
I understand portions of Death Valley are not too far away too.
Death Valley is where I would head. It's only about 50-60 miles from Pahrump, and from there you've got a lot of choices depending on how much time you have. Zabriskie Point is a good sunrise location. The Devil's Golfcourse and Artist's Drive are reasonably close, the former being a good sunset location. Mesquite Flat Dunes near Stovepipe Wells is one of my favorites in the Park any time of day.
Pahrump is an old mining town seemingly in the middle of nowhere. In my opinion one patch of desert looks just like any other in Nevada (stretching the truth a bit here!). You might try taking pictures of some of the old buildings, but I agree with Rick...head for Death Valley or even Valley of Fire (east of LV). Yuu'll find much more to photograph.
