According to the article it comes with an included 2x teleconverter. Imagine -- 400-1000mm f5.6. Put that on my D2x in HSC mode and it becomes the equivalent of an 800-2000mm f5.6!!!
I've got to admit, though, I'm going to be very interested in what this things costs. If it's anywhere near reality I'm going to be saving my pennies while I work out at the gym!

Dave, my instinct tells me you better be saving more than just pennies .....
As for me, my back couldn't handle the strain of getting it on a tripod!
Wayne, You are probably oh so correct on that pennies thing! If this lens goes for anything less than six to eight-grand I'll be VERY surprised. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see it top the scale at 10+. Of course, if you can afford this, you can probably afford to hire someone to tote if for you!
Oh well, we can always dream! Until then I'll just stick to my 120-300 and trying to get closer!

If I were to sell all of my possessions and buy this thing I'd be able to get some good shots of Arkansas waterfalls ..... from my backyard!!!

I thought it was the Hubble deep space telescope first time I saw it.
The picture has what appears to be Sigma's new SD14 camera mounted to the lens. Using their figures, with the SD14 being 4.2 inches tall, it looks like the front element on this lens is somewhere close to 9 inches! That makes the lens approximately 21 inches long and 11-12 inches at its widest point.
I wonder if they're going to include a dolly with this monster? That's not a handle on top, that's a winch connecting bracket!
You may be correct on the length of this lens, Tim. Sigma lists their 300-800 as being 21.4" long. Where I think the difference will be is in the diameter. The 300-800 is measured at 6.1". Looking at the various pictures of this behemoth I'll be very surprised if it doesn't measure out at at least 8" or more. Couple that with the much wider lens body and I believe this lens will out weigh the 300-800 that is listed at almost 13 pounds. Bottom line is that neither one of these lenses will be something you'll want to sling over your shoulder and set out for the high country!
Still, the idea of a 200-500 f2.8 is something that I'd sure like to at least experiment with! Maybe you could arrange for a loaner for one of your seminars?!
