Hey all, I finally finished my new redesigned website. I haven't really integrated paypal into it yet, but its coming slowly, but surely. What do you think of the new design?

thanks everyone! :toast:

Looks great. Lots of artistic pictures so far. What software did you use?

Looks like you have some navigation elements below the gray keyline at the bottom, but on my screen they're mostly obscurred so that you can't see what they say. Also, I like galleries that have "next" buttons to scroll through a particular gallery, so I don't have to continually go back to the previous page and select another image.

The paragraph text font is a little hard to read, too.

The center image of your Western US gallery goes to a shot of Hanging Lake, and not the flowery image in the thumbnail.

I assume you know that all the other gallery links go directly back to your opening page "click to enter" photo.

On your profile and news pages, that tiny white text is nearly impossible to read on top of that light gray background. On the profile page, the gray box is smaller than the bio text.

Of course, if no one else sees what I'm seeing, I'm gonna feel mighty foolish!

wow, none of those things are issues on my computer, must be a MAC/Windows issue. I will have to go through it all!

Todd, what browser do you use? Honestly it looks perfect on my computer using firefox. I am fixing the other technical issues, but as far as the colors and fonts go, I have no idea....any chance of doing a screen capture and showing me?

I wonder if the disappearing navigation elements are a browser issue? They look fine in Firefox, but I see what Todd sees (or doesn't see) when I use IE7 -- they are nearly completely hidden. I really like the fact that you talk about each image -- I think that adds a lot. I do agree that the text is sometimes hard to read, though.

I think the text issue may also be browser-related -- in IE7, the background is really light in some text blocks --the text to the right of your portrait in the "profile" section, for example, as Tood mentioned. In Firefox, the background is black, making the text much more readable. However, in Firefox the links kind of bleed over the bottom of your profile text. This part looks good in IE7 - no overlap.

Please don't take this as criticism -- your site is easy to navigate and has some stunning images. I think you've done a good job; now you're at the "cleanup" stage, which is always very frustrating! Keep up the good work.

by hard to read...are you referring to color? size? both?

Jon:

I am using IE7 and my experience is the same as Todd's. Answering your question directly above, the text blocks are gray with white text making them difficult to read due to lack of contrast between the background and the text.

Regardless of programming and Apple/PC conversion issues, it's a beautiful site with many fine images. Also, I applaud you for putting together your own site. That puts you light-years ahead of me in the technology category!

Jon - here's a screen shot captured in IE7

...and in NS8

Very nice design - clean, contemporary and it compliments the photography well. Once you get the design foibles worked out, it'll be sweet.

Sorry, I went to bed and didn't see the follow-ups. Yup, seems to be a browser issue. But I wouldn't worry about it. Nobody uses Microsoft products.

wow, this is insanely depressing. The fonts and colors look completely different on my computer. Anyone using Firefox here? Does it appear normal to you?
Posted by Todd Caudle on March 10, 2007 at 1:47 PM
Beyond the color differences between browsers, do the hinky links I mentioned work fine in Firefox? Does the flowery photo in the center of your Western US gallery link to a flowery photo or a Hanging Lake photo? Do the other gallery links go to the galleries or back to the opening page?

I'm using Mac firefox and it looks fine to me.

Jon,

I poked around, I use firefox (pc) exclusively, and it looked totally fine.

Nice site.

ok, so it works on firefox. Odd. I dont think I'm going to bother fixing it....everyone should be using Firefox anyways :)

I just took a look with Firefox and saw the same issues already pointed out and with IE7. but don't worry noone uses AOL, Netscape, or Opera either

Hey Jon,
I use Safari and it looks good for the most part, except that the title overlaps the menu bar. It's a simple and pleasing design, and like your old site too, I love the paragraphs you have for each photo.
Although I despise IE as much as the next person, unfortunately about 50% of users out there use it, so I wouldn't write them off.
What software did you use to create this? I took a look at the code, and it looks horrendous! No wonder there's so much cross-browser problems. You might want to consider trying a different program, or *cringe* check out an html book. You could achieve the same design with about 1/5 of the code.
Anyhow, I think it looks great... it's just those pesky browser compatibility problems!

Thanks everyone! I have worked out some of the bugs. I appreciate the help as always.
