Took a trip to the paint mines yesterday, my first time to the formations (tried once right after the blizzard but the snow was too deep to get near the mines). I was hoping for a low-angle break in the high cloud deck, was about ready to give up since it was holding gray and dull, then about half hour before sunset i got the break i was looking for. Pretty cool place, tho the power lines are a bit distracting.

I really like these Stan, especially the perspective in the first. I've wanted to go to the paint mines and your shots re-enforce that desire. You captured some excellent light and colors. Your patience paid off with the bright warm colors of the rock contrasting with the moody bruised sky. I would clone out the road sign in the upper left in #1 and give the second a small amount of CCW rotation.
Good work!

Awesome light. I like those dark skies too Stan. I've got to check this place out soon.

I have got to drag myself out there. Very nice stuff!
Bob,Josh,Pam: Thanks for the comments! In a few weeks, probably won't have to deal with the ankle-deep mud anymore!
Pam: i definitely considered cloning out the park bench (which is painted green, so it does look like a sign); my reasoning was that a bench is more 'parklike' and less offensive than a sign, but i think you're probably right, better to nix it.
