Marsh Harrier, the one and only!
We've only one visiting Marsh Harrier here on Guernsey and no doubt he'll be leaving us shortly for further afield (probably Jersey who have breeding Harriers there). Anyway I've been visiting the reed beds where he's been living for the last couple of weeks trying to get some shots. With only fleeting appearences it's been a case of sitting in the hide most days after work for the last couple of hours of sunlight hoping for a flyby near enough to the hide. This shot is the best from last weeks efforts.

500 f/4L IS with 1.4x and 30D @ f/5.6, bean bag support.

Thanks.

this is a fantastic shot-- what patience you must have! the spread feathers and detail are terrific. I've got a goshawk for a neighbor here in Prague, so why don't you hop over because ti's been hunting in front of my window and I haven't the camera for it ':) and even the jays put up clamor when it's about and head for the safest trees.

Most of the marsh harrier photos I've seen are with them over reed beds (which is great to see) but this one is a very nice alternative view.

I like the detail that's revealed in the plumage.

Very nice. :toast:
