Yosemite in Winter - 1 [02-24-2007]
Took this image shortly after entering the park via Hwy 140.

Canon EOS 1Ds, Canon 70-200 f4/L IS.

Global correction in Adobe Lightroom, local correction in Photoshop CS2.

Would be looking forward to hear your critiques and comments.

Hi Subrata,

The composition here is very striking. I specially like the light striking the peaks. While I don't mind the strong color cast per-se, it is, IMHO, preventing me from studying the detail that is present in the scene. What are your thoughts on elminating some of the cast to see if it helps in that respect?

BTW, since this was made on 04-24-2007, it is a photo from the future.

Hi Anil,

I appreciate your feedback.

Regarding color cast: image is white balanced based on snow on mountain top, LAB reading was 97- 98 or so for L channel. Camera's Auto WB reading was 6050K, I reduced it to 6009K to create colder scene. In other words, it is bit intentional and I didn't try to remove the color cast. May be I should try with camer's default WB, and see how that looks.

Let’s see what others thinks.

Subrata,
While I can see where you are trying to go with making the photo cooler, I agree with Anil - it's a tad strong. I like the river for the eye to follow, but alot of the detail in the shadows is being lost. I personally would like to see the foreground lightened a bit to bring out the details that are hinting about.

I have a problem with the compisition. At first sight I have a hard time decoding the photo, I don't get a sense of depth from the trees to the mountain. The color cast is not that annoying for me.

Maybe the lack of contrast in the trees is why I can't process the depth, or maybe it's because of the laco of a focus point for my eye in the foreground to start parsing the photo as I gaze...

Maybe someone has more insight?
