El Dorado Hills Sunset
Posted in E,S&S forum as well but thought to post here for comment as well. Taken last night as the sunset...captures for me the essence of the California foothils within El Dorado County. D200, 70-200 at 200mm, 1.6s @ f/11. A bit of curves adjustment to bring out the foreground and the rocks at the right. Cropped to panoramic image. Comments appreciated.

The sky has a greyish undertone, so IMHO, I'd increase the brightness to get a whiter sky, and then readjust the blacks as needed, trying to keep that dusk feel, and not overbrighten it.

Other option would be to do the oposite, darken the sky, and use some fill light for the ground to keep it visible...

Ah, I have changed my screen settings so if others have better tuned screens and it looks fine, correct my post.

Dan --

Thanks for you comments. Seems I may have missed a step and when looking at the image it frustrated me...so, here is an updated version with the white and black points correctly set...Thanks for your comments.

I don't know about a lighter sky but I was going to suggest more contrast. The foreground looks very nice in the 2nd picture though.

Hi Bishop,

The composition is simple but effective and the overall photo is very representative of the location. I prefer the 2nd (lighter) version although the first one is nice too and provides a different mood.

Just saw the reposted version Bishop. The reposted one looks much better even better. Great scenic. Not too sure where El Dorado Co. is? East of Sacramento or San Francisco? Kinda reminds me of going through and near Placerville out of Sacramento.

Cory -- YOu just about nailed the location. This is right on the edge of El Dorado Co and Sacramento CO...so, maybe 20 or so miles west of Placerville. Thanks for your comments! The second version more closely resembles waht I saw with my eyes...
