Hi everyone, my name is Michal, and I am new to this forum. I just moved into Irvine, CA recently, and I can only allocate a limited time to my photographic passion I was wondering you guys could save me some of it - by sharing info about areas and places around Orange County that are interesting from a nature-photographer's point of view. I don't know anything about the area (except maybe which way the ocean is), so any tip will be greatly appreciated!
My work is in Irvine, but I live in Fremont (SF Bay Area). I also don't know much about Irvine, but have seen images of Crystal Cove State Park in this forum. May be that is a good location to begin with...
Would love to see your images in this forum. Wish you a good luck!!!
Hey thank you so much Subtata :) This looks like a great place for starters!

Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve is across the street from UCI. If you are into birds and like to kayak, then that may be the place for you as well.
Hi Michal,
Welcome...so, I suggest head toward that very ocean, get on the ferry at Dana Point (take the earliest boat), and go over to Catalina Island for the day to the town of Avalon. Stop in at the office of the Catalina Island Conservancy in town for information. One suggestion is to take the bus to the airport and spend at least part of the day up there ($20.00 round trip). You can get a hiking permit from Catalina Island Conservany (free of charge) to hike in the area. ( then take the latest boat home). You can find out more at www.catalina.com
