I bought a Nikon 200mm IF ED Micro lens last week. I sent in the registration card. My question is: Is there a way to check the status of the registration? If the card got lost in the mail will it affect warranty?
I if you still have the serial number, you can register it on-line. Go to http://prc.prodregister.com/nikon/ or you can fumble around on www.nikonusa.com until finding a place to "register products". I tried to use their search function but it did not find register or registration.
Assuming the product is already registered, you may get an error message. Or, if the mail in registration has not been processed, you should be safe.

I read somewhere that registration is primarily a marketing device. Unlikely there is an army of staff to input all the registration data somewhere. Apparently you just need a serial number for warranty work. No direct knowledge, just what I heard.

Gary is correct. The manufacturer cannot deny warranty service just because it was not registered.

Thank you very much. It's really nice to know about this. Now I feel relieved.
