Brylcream boy
mmm showing may age here - do they still sell brylcream, or is just hair gel these days, anyhow....

Oly E-1, 150 F2 another lunchtime shot down at Regents Park , "man habituated" Great Crested Grebe at about 6 feet (at least it has the sense not to eat bread...) - full frame just resized

Processed on my laptop so the contrast has gone a bit awry I think - still awaiting my PC to be de-virused.

Nice shot but it looks like the grebe's been slapping on the fake tan a little.

perhaps a lower angle mike? Still, i'd be proud of this shot!

Hi Mike

Nice shot, love the water - this individual certainly has more rufous feathers around the face and neck than is the norm. I don't mind the shooting angle as the BG water is so attractive!

One thing i remember (and hence why i'm itching for an E-1 for the third time) is the way water looks (yes i know its odd). Here are two examples of what i mean.

I have never been able to repeat this with any other camera.

The Oly Raw files definately have a totally different saturation and colour characteristic compared to CaNikon, its almost like shooting Velvia vs Sensia in old film terms.

However this may change with Oly showing signs of dumping Kodak CCDs once and for all in favour of the Panasonic live-view sensors - part of the 4/3rds development agreements in place presumably - there is a fair bit of technology licensing between the two companies at present

Certainly has been at the tanning cream, and certainly an unusual sight, contrast is prob a bit high but not a problem as all the detail is present, great water...

Must try and pop up there if and when I get the chance to witness this one...

Mike, have you tried any of the other oly's E300, 500 400 etc? A friend of mine has the E-300 and i dont think the colours grab you like the E-1's. There is something about the E-1 which i find so addictive.

Strange to see the rufous coloration on the head and does look abit over saturated-still a nice image :toast:

Paul

I tried using a 500 last year with my old Nikon 300 F2.8 AIS manual focus lens - but the camera is not really a wildlife camera - viewfinder too small, rate of fire and buffer memory size for RAW images is hopeless.

I use it (or did before it was sent to Portugal by Oly for a sensor change 4 months ago :frown: ) for holiday travel/walking landscape work where a light body is a welcome relief after lugging the Canon 1dsII about.....

this was my earlier post about experimenting with the 4/3rds system last year on an Easter break in Spain using the E500 and the above Nikon lens setup plus the Nikon 301 2xtc ie an equivelent 1,200mm F5.6 lens - the second stilt image was taken using shutter delay to calm vibrations down and shows that occasionaly it can all come together!

I'm torn between getting another E-1, as i liked the images, and the excelent build quality, or going foa n E-330 as they are going cheaply. The E-330 has live view, and 7.5 mpixels and apparently very good IQ.

Paul

Have a good dig through DPReview website review of the 330, there are some issues with the live-view, not sure if it is mode A or B, but when the shutter release is half tripped for AF the image goes very dark as shutter masks the projected image and the secondary sensor is working off a pelicle mirror type arrangement, consequently the live-view image becomes quite dark - depends upon what you want to use the camera for, but don't expect perfect AF with live-view - possibly why it has been dropped in the new 410/510 models

Still the 330 seems to be better specked than the nearly identical Panasonic L1 version and is cheaper
