Anyone have any plans or ideas for a Saturday sunrise shoot. Finally have a little time to get out. Thought I would check here to see what was going on, if anything.

Dream Lake is really cool looking right now with the bubbles under the ice and frozen waves on top of the lake. Check out the recent ice and blended exposure threads.

If you go just make sure and bracket your exposures. The weather looks pretty good for the weekend so far. I went last Tuesday and it was great! However my friend John Klotz went on Sunday right after it had snowed and the lake was covered with fresh stuff. So as long as you go after the small amount of new snow has had time to melt or blow away it will be fine.

Joe, I sure wish I could join you for something Saturday, but I have Daddy Boot Camp class for our upcoming little one!!

Like Derek said, Dream Lake can be an awesome sunrise, and plenty other stuff to shoot afterwards. Also up in RMNP, maybe Sprague Lake. That would of course be an easier hike!

Another fun one, and a little closer to town would be Red Rock Lake off the Brainard Lake road. Like Dream Lake, it can be a little breezy up there. The hike from the gate to Red Rock Lake is only about 5 minutes, which is nice!

Good luck, and can't wait to see some images!

Hi all, Yep I did Dream Lake on Sunday. First time on snowshoes even! Had a blast with my 16 year old (he could have done it 3 times in the time it took me... but, hey I am an out-of-shape almost old guy...lol. Saw Eric and family ahead of us at the trail head. I had planned on doing O-dark-thirty Saturday but checked the weather and it was snowing so opted for Sunday afternoon. Outside of doing some HDR test shots I did not try any serious shooting... too many people on such a nice day. A.m. is definitely better. Maybe I'll post some HDR for critique if results are near to reasonable. Nice shots there Brent!

Did any one get the morning light on the Front Range today? It looked really nice.

John, you should have stopped to say hello. We were so busy talking to Tony L and finance who were on their way down that we didn't even see you.

Joseph, I'm not sure if I would recommend Dream Lake for ice right now. We had snow and then some warm days without wind and I have a feeling that the snow will have melted on to the lake ruining most of the ice. I haven't been up there since then so I can't be certain but I'd bet that the ice fractures may be gone for the season. :frown:

I just got some info that sounds just like Eric's. I just got this from George Hager, who went up to Dream Lake today :

" The day before was nice too - so nice in fact that all the snow and ice on the lake had melted into slush. Over night it turned into frozen slush. You know how many ice patterns there are in frozen slush? That's right - zip, zero, nada."

Sounds rough. Hope this helps!

Wow,

Its amazing that the thick layer of ice that was there just a week ago could melt so fast. But then again look at the weather and forecast. Things have really warmed up quickly. Even with a storm every 5 days or so, it seems like the big melt off is really kickin' in.

So with that in mind how long until we start seeing our first alpine reflection shots??? I am still pretty new to Colorado winters. But with all this warm weather in the forecast it seems like thawed lakes aren't too far away. If I could place bets on it I would say Erik will post the first alpine lake reflection shot of the 2007. But you never know:wink: Lets see, Spraugue Lake is only at 8710' Hmmm....

I'm headed to the Sierra Ancha wilderness. Gonna go take some pics. Gonna cum back with mammaries of ruined places. Don't have your guys' big'uns. So I'm gonna have to play with my littl'uns.

I'm bored.
